As we progress through our 30 Days of AI in Testing Challenge, today’s focus shifts towards an important yet often overlooked aspect of AI adoption: the environmental impact.

AI’s rapid adoption has brought invaluable benefits to many industries. However, the training and deployment of AI models can have a significant environmental impact due to the energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with them. As responsible professionals, it’s essential to try to understand and mitigate AI’s carbon footprint to adopt more sustainable practices.

The training of AI systems like large language models typically requires significant electrical power and hardware resources. These resources’ consumption comes not only from the energy required for computation itself but also from the cooling systems needed to maintain the hardware devices’ normal operation.
